Our Mission, Vision and Values

As the Woodland Academy Trust, we believe strongly that the community is at the heart of what we do. In preparing the young people we serve for happy and fulfilled lives, we also improve the overall level of happiness and optimism for our local community. This approach is relational; we create a circle of security for all those within our care; both directly and indirectly.  We exist to build the assets for families and communities to respond with dignity and resilience to all that they face; turning every threat or barrier into an opportunity for growth.Waitcairs Tree2

As Woodland Academy Trust, we are passionate about improving the quality of life for the people in our community; South East London and North Kent. We recognise the many barriers to success, due to poverty, poor educational outcomes and a lack of hope and seek to overcome them through education and through acting as a hub for the community; a base for support and acceptance. We believe that a problem becomes a crisis when there is no-one there to call; we are called and we answer.

We exist to provide a rich and balanced educational environment which caters for the whole person- academically, vocationally, socially, morally spiritually, physically, emotionally and environmentally. Our task is to serve our pupils as to provide a learning hub for the whole community. In this way we will raise aspirations, unlock potential and work to achieve excellence through encouraging a “can do” culture which nurtures confident and competent people. We recognise the richness that spiritual and cultural diversity brings to our community. We respect the beliefs and practices of other faiths and will provide a welcoming environment for pupils of all faiths and those with none. We recognise that we are stronger together and value collaboration. We aim to develop an understanding and tolerance of each other through knowledge, mutual respect, believing the best and forgiveness. Individual rights will be respected and choice will be exercised within a culture of self-discipline. The Trust is here to ensure that we fulfil our mission, “to reveal the Champion within”- this pertains to the children, parents, staff and communities that we are here to serve. It also recognises that we don’t create champions; we help to give individuals and cohorts the skills, experience and beliefs to see the Champion within and to live more like it each and every day. In order to fulfil this mission we will be “growing in our thinking, feeling and learning together” and this is what this handbook is all about; an explanation of what that means as a lived experience; what it means for how we speak to each other and behave towards each other.

Essentially, this is the way we do things in Woodland Academy Trust. It is our WAT way, it is the reason we do what we do. It is why our children will have their learning, lives and communities transformed. Our mission is to inspire young people to achieve their full potential and become leaders in their own lives and within wider society. Our vision is a society where all organisations are led by socially conscious people with every young person making the transition into adulthood with the firm foundations required for future success. We do that by teaching, modelling and believing in the WATCAIRS approach.
